Oh La Lauren

Les week-ends

Wow, I am so behind on blogging.

Briefly:

*Got a 16 on my paper about Haussmann for History of Paris. Very happy, though the teacher remarked that I didn’t discuss the financing of Haussmann’s project, which was a big deal. Frustrated that I thought about including this and then didn’t.

*Went to the Petit Palais and Grand Palais. Petit is absolutely astonishing. Grand is cool too, though most of it is under construction. Slash, they put a children’s science museum in it?! Very weird.

*Tonight I went to see a play because Sweet Briar had a free ticket. It was called Le Mardi à Monoprix. It involved a man who looked like a lizard wearing a white vest and white leather pants playing bass (beautifully) and a transgender main character. In fact, it was like a one-man show, save for the bass. The main actor was wonderful though I didn’t understand the entire show. Should read it sometime.

*The French really like saying “Ca y est” “franchement” “voilà” “tu vois?” and “écoute” among other things. I’m thinking I should compose a list so I can incorporate these sayings into my daily vocabulary.

*The other day I was in the métro, and people were going in and out of the car, when I saw something fall between the crack. As the doors closed and the train pulled away, a girl a couple years younger than me SCREAMED. MON PORTABLE! This chick was screeeaaming. Everyone was staring. She was swearing. And finally, I got a little confused because I saw her pull out a cell phone when I was getting off the train. Trompe l’oeil?

*I’m feeling more confident about my academic trials I have coming up. That doesn’t mean I want to do the work, but I will get through it, I’m confident now. However I’m a little concerned I didn’t go to enough consultations to get my sociology grade boosted. Will I be ok?

*Apparently some students at NU chipped away at the rock. I’m confused.

*As far as Madrid goes, I had a great time and thought the city was beautiful. So glad I got to go to Spain and treat myself to some nice weather. However, I think I’m going to keep the long and tedious account of the trip in my personal archives. There was definitely some group conflict/tension, but in the end I figured out what I had to do to have a good time, and since the worst day was the first one, it was easy to put behind me.

*I’m going to Marseille and to Lyon this weekend! AHH. I’m especially especially excited for the fête des lumières in Lyon. And to hang out with Laura, just have good conversation and those types of things we do.

*Today Mme Parnet and I found a receipt for 695 euros spent at Lanvin. Now the question is whose receipt was that?!

*It seems like nearly every student who is staying for a full year is moving out of their homestays. Dang Parisians.

*Haven’t played Spades in ages

*Should avoid Starbucks. I have gone two times in the last two weeks, and the Noisette Caramel latté is good, but 3,90 euro is steep.

*Should avoid Starbucks because I found a super cute pair of rainboots in a store on Rue de Rennes that I need to buy.

*Oh, yes, and Grant came to visit me in Paris. When I think back on it, most of our adventures were food-related. Hahaha. That’s another thing I’ll have to write about next weekend or something.

*Highly considering/planning on not sleeping for the last 30 hours I spend in Paris 2 weeks from now.

*I’m satisfied that I wrote this even if it’s 1:22 and I need to get up early for the train tomorrow.

*Downloaded fantastic new music. The French have very good taste in music.

*One new song I’m loving is Diam’s Enfants du Désert. Let’s not talk about how she’s playing in Marseille and in Paris two days after I leave each of those cities.
